Studying Abroad in Ireland!

I'm really interested in an opportunity through Marywood to visit Ireland for 16 days. It's offered through the English department, so I can take either or both classes; Travel Writing and Multimedia Composition. We will spend 16 total days there! We'll visit a small village called Sneem for 8 days, staying in a hotel and mingling with the natives. We'll then spend the next 8 days packing in a tourist vacation! I got to read up on the last group's adventures, and I'm especially excited to visit the village.

If anybody reading this has anything the want to pass on about Ireland, now would be the time!

Dining Hall Probs

WOW I ate way too much for lunch. Our dining hall is buffet style for only $5, so we all go crazy. There is a pizza station, a sandwich bar, an ethnic food station, an American food station, a vegan and gluten-free station, desserts, drinks, and a salad bar. With all of those choices, it's sometimes hard to decide what you want. For instance, today I had two slices of deep dish pizza, General Tso's chicken, veggie lo mein, sweet potato fries, iced tea, and a raspberry cheesecake tart. Like I said, too much.

I don't really know why I eat too much when I'm there -- maybe because it's just there and so I eat it. I may just take a nap to sleep off some of the food haha! (And to catch up on my sleep, I only got 6 and a half hours last night).

I have lots of homework to do, papers to write, and laundry to fold now, so adios!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Wow, it's October already! October is an interesting month. A large portion of people are born in October (it's 9 months after Valentine's Day!), there's fall break, and pumpkins, and halloween. With already so much going on, what else could possibly fit?

Breast cancer awareness month needs to happen. Even though pink doesn't go with your black and orange halloween decor, make it happen. You all are smart ladies. If someone doesn't know why you're wearing pink, or your facebook banner has a pink ribbon, or you have a magnet on your car bumper, tell them. Spread statistics, share links to relevant articles, get a mammogram and have your girlfriends come with you. Find the phone numbers of local doctor's offices and text them to your best friend. Learn how to give yourself a breast exam. Learn what increases your chances of getting breast cancer.

Share the stories of those who have passed because of breast cancer - share their fight, their triumphs, and their losses. Show someone who has lost a loved one a kind gesture. Support those who are fighting with all their might. Help them in any way possible. Donate toward the cure. Walk an awareness walk with your mom or sister or friend. Create your own fundraiser.

Do what you can. Please. There are people who have breast cancer right now and don't know it. If you can be that person who asks them to go get a mammogram with you or shares that article about how to check your breasts and it gets to them... you may have just saved their life.

If you're male, get checked. Guys can get breast cancer too, and it's just as bad for them. They have to deal with the stigma of being male with breast cancer.
